Background Information for Camp Wapiti, Inc.

Following a four year search for suitable property, Utah Elks Camp Wapiti was established in 1990 to construct and maintain a special use camping facility for children with medical disabilities. The goal of this project is to provide an environment where children with medical disabilities can enjoy a true camping experience, including recreational activities, as well as obtain vital educational information they need to live longer, healthier lives.

The young people served by this project include clients of the American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society, American Lung Association, National Hemophilia Fondation and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. These children cannot attend a traditional camp with the medical care and equipment to closely supervise and treat their conditions. The agencies involved provide 100% of the camp staff.

Camp Wapiti is a fully-charitable IRS 501(c)(3) corporation. It has no paid employees; it is staffed entirely by volunteer labor, and the Board of Directors serve at their own expense.

Camping began on a limited basis in 1994 and has continued with full camping season every summer since then. Back to Camp Wapiti Home Page
